Rules of concern to citizens
Brunei implement Shariah Penal Code Order, 2013, in its first, of three phases, which include fines and prison sentences for “crimes” such as pregnancies outside of wedlock, propagating religions other than Islam, and not attending mandatory Friday prayers.
Brunei is a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control 2005.
Smoking is prohibited in virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces, on sidewalks near business premises and within a six-meter radius of smoke free buildings.
Heavy fines are imposed on those who violate the restriction.
Selling or Drinking of all type of alcohol is banned by law in Brunei (including hotels). However non-Muslim visitors over 17 years old are allowed to bring in alcohol into Brunei for their personal consumption.
On arrival into Brunei, you must declare any alcohol by simply filling in the yellow import forms available at any entry point.
